I have a few questions of my fellow tripawd people. First, should one try to slow down one’s pup as she is barrelling through the snow lickety split? Maggie is going full steam and has fallen a few times. I certainly don’t want her to hurt her only front leg but trying to contain a Weim seems fruitless. I do have a harness to help her in the truck but so far she is doing everything she did when she had 4 legs. Second, does everyone continue to give heartworm and vaccines? I gave her her heartworm but I’ve been reluctant to give her any more vaccines. Third, I found out Maggie’s father died of osteosarcoma at age 7. Is this disease hereditary? Thanks for any input.

I decided not to give Maggie Chemo. Hopefully she will be one of the lucky ones who survives 1 or 2 years or lets really dream and the cancer is gone. She is 17 days post op amputation and is running around like before when she had 4 legs. I’m behind her telling her to slow down. Before I have a chance to help her up she has jumped on the bed, in the truck or on the quad. I took the stitiches out (ok’d by vet) and now she’s not licking at her wound. We are enjoying her every minute we can.

OK, I’ve never blogged before and I have no idea what I am doing but I need help because I have a 5 year old Weim with osteosarcama. I had her front leg amputated 1 week ago and she is doing great. Now the decision on whether or not to do chemo. My concern is not the money (although somewhat) but will I be putting her through torture only to live a couple of extra months. Will she live 6 months throwing up the whole time. I know no one knows the answer and you just have to go with your heart but it’s a very tough decision. My vet said not very many people do chemo in her practice. I don’t know if that is because we are in a financially depressed area or for some other reason. I’ve done alot of research about osteosarcoma and the prognosis for a 5 year old dog is not good. I’m not trying to be negative but things seem rather bleak. Any thoughts. Penny
